I just read this book. No literally, I picked it up yesterday and read it in about an hour and loved every minute of it! If you haven’t had a chance to read any of Thich Nhat Hanh’s works, then I highly suggest you do. His explanations are so simple, yet so precise, completely unveiling the mysteries of meditation and mindfulness practice.
In this work, Hanh discusses the four aspects of love, the importance of being present in relationships, how to forgive those you love, how to ask for help from loved ones, and the importance of taking care of oneself. The practices he offers are easy to incorporate into any daily sadhana (spiritual practice). If you are new to mindfulness practice, then this is a great place to start.
Hanh writes, “The practice of mindfulness, the practice of meditation, consists of coming back to ourselves in order to restore peace and harmony. The energy with which we can do this is the energy of mindfulness. Mindfulness is a kind of energy that carries with it concentration, understanding, and love. If we come back ourselves to restore peace and harmony, then helping another person will be a much easier thing.”
Be love. Breathe love. Give love. Share love.
Also on my favorites list, You Are Here by Thich Nhat Hanh. “Breathe in and know that you are breathing in. Breathe out and know that you are breathing out.” Lovely.
Do you practice mindfulness? If so, how has it helped to heal yourself and your relationships? What sorts of clarity have you gained through mindfulness and meditation practice?
