Like Attracts Like
Copy it down and keep those words close to you. I know, it’s a lot to remember (kidding), but it will seriously serve you in the long run if you get it AND you practice it.
As you probably know by now, I’m getting ready to launch a new program of which, I’m a) really excited about and b) really nervous about all at the same time. In fact, I spent my entire day yesterday vacillating from “how the hell am I going to do this?” to “hell yes I’m doing this!”
Sure, I could let doubt get in my way. But I’ve been down that road and my gut is literally screaming at me to make this program happen. As I go through this process, I keep reminding myself that “like attracts like” and if I want to attract a positive outcome I need to think positively about the entire situation.
Seems simple, right? Well…it is and it isn’t. Our thought patterns, especially the negative ones, are so deeply embedded in us, that often times we don’t realize we are sabotaging our own personal desires and dreams. In essence, the only thing holding you back is YOU! This is true on your mat and off your mat. Trust me.
The ancient yogis knew this and Patanjali talks about it in this Yoga Sutras. One example is when discussing the Four Keys to Happiness and another example happens when he states:
Vitarka Badhane Pratipaksa Bhavanam (Y.S. 2.33)When disturbed by negative thoughts, opposite [positive] ones should be thought of.
In order to keep a calm mind, it’s important to get the negative messaging out of the way and it’s simple process to understand. When you think a negative thought, immediately think a positive one. That’s it!
Negative thoughts are just that, they’re negative. They continuously hold us back by telling us we’re not good/smart/skinny/rich enough to achieve our biggest dreams. Taking hold of your negative mind and the stories it wishes to tell is the first step to attracting more positive things in your life. This could be more better health, money, a new job, more clients, a promotion, better relationships, etc. When you look around and see things not working the way you want whether with your health, your social circle, career or in the bank, stop and examine your thoughts first. Your negative thoughts just may be the reason that you’re having trouble attracting what it is you really want. I know I’m over simplifying this process, but I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to understand what I’m saying.
How am I putting this practice into action? First, I’m surrounding myself with like-minded, positive thinking friends and family members that truly want to see me succeed. There’s no time for feeling bad about myself and I don’t want to be around anyone that’s going to suck me down in to their energetic black hole. Second, when I think “how the hell am I going to do this?” I immediately think “hell yes I’m doing this!” Stating in the affirmative, present moment that it is happening right now. Third, I’m reminding myself that Rome wasn’t built in a day and although I want this project to be done and ready to go yesterday, I also want to make sure it’s quality, so taking some extra time is okay with me!
Remember: Like Attracts Like. If you think negative things, you attract negative outcomes. If you think positive things, you attract positive outcomes. Simple, sweet and to the point. Love it!
